Principle
This site is built to process as little as possible. There are no user accounts, no analytics, no tracking and no advertising. Fonts and scripts are served from this server; nothing is loaded from Google Fonts or a CDN.
Server logs
The host automatically records the usual access data: the address requested, date and time, volume transferred, browser and operating system, referrer, and IP address. This data is not combined with any other source.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR — a legitimate interest in operating the site securely and correctly. Logs are deleted after [RETENTION PERIOD]. Hosting is provided by [HOST AND ADDRESS], under a data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR.
Local storage
This site sets no cookies.
Switching between light and dark appearance stores that choice in your
browser's localStorage under the key theme. The value is never sent to
the server and contains only light or dark. Because it is strictly
necessary for a function you explicitly requested, no consent is required
(§ 25(2)(2) TDDDG). You can clear it through your browser settings.
Search
Search runs entirely in your browser. Opening it fetches a file of article titles and text from this server. Your search terms never leave your device and are not logged.
Embedded video
Articles may embed video from YouTube or Vimeo, using the privacy-enhanced mode. Playing a video connects to the provider's servers and transmits your IP address. Providers are Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland, and Vimeo.com, Inc., 330 West 34th Street, New York, NY 10001, USA. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
Comments
Comments use Giscus and are stored as discussions in the associated GitHub repository, not on this server. The provider is GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. Commenting requires a GitHub account, under GitHub's own privacy terms. I receive no access to your credentials and store no personal data about commenters on this server. Loading the comment section connects to GitHub and transmits your IP address; GitHub relies on standard contractual clauses for the transfer to the USA.
Legal basis: [Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR with click-to-load, or Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR with direct embedding — decide before enabling.]
Your rights
You have the right to access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction (Art. 18), portability (Art. 20) and objection (Art. 21) with respect to your personal data. Write to the address above.
You may also lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77) — either where you live or where the controller is established, here [SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY].
